Concept Study
Overview
Cryptag began by looking at the conventional cold wallet and the way it is typically treated as a security device.
As digital assets become a more significant form of personal ownership, the hardware used to protect them is still often stored away in a drawer or bag when not in use.
Cryptag reimagines the cold wallet not as a device that only appears when needed, but as a personal object that can remain close to the user throughout everyday life.
Question
Can hardware designed to protect digital assets become a personal accessory?
Rather than hiding the technical character of a security device, the project explores how its protective role could remain clear while becoming more naturally integrated into the user’s everyday life and personal style.
Reframing
The project began by reframing the cold wallet as a wearable tag rather than a small electronic device.
Tags are familiar objects associated with identification, ownership, and personal attachment.
Cryptag connects these qualities with digital ownership, creating a physical point of contact between the user and assets that otherwise exist entirely in the digital world.
Form Exploration
The form development focused on creating an object that feels closer to jewelry and fashion accessories than conventional electronic hardware.
A small display and interface are integrated into a compact form, while the contrast between a metallic body and vivid digital graphics reflects both the physical and digital nature of the object.
Its compact scale and clear attachment structure allow Cryptag to move beyond a single fixed way of use.
Wearable System
A modular accessory system was developed to allow a single Cryptag to connect with the body and everyday objects in different ways.
It can be worn as a necklace, attached to keys, combined with a ring, or used as a grip attached to a smartphone.
Rather than disappearing when not in use, Cryptag becomes a personal piece of hardware that can change its position and role depending on the user’s situation and style.
Interaction
Cryptag maintains the basic idea of a cold wallet—keeping digital assets separated from online networks—while exploring NFC as a simple way to support everyday authentication and interaction.
Technology is treated not as the identity of the product itself, but as the foundation that allows a small physical object to connect digital ownership with the physical world.
Resolution
The final concept brings together the qualities of a cold wallet, wearable object, and fashion accessory within a single compact form.
Through its form and accessory system, Cryptag explores how digital assets could become something that is not only securely stored, but also experienced through a physical object that stays close to its owner.
Reflection
Cryptag is not intended to propose a new security technology.
Instead, the project asks what physical hardware might become as more value and ownership move into the digital world.
By giving invisible digital assets a tactile and personal form, Cryptag imagines the security device as both an everyday accessory and a physical anchor for digital ownership.
